About the facility

Enjoy a special time at a private hot spring villa with a garden where you can enjoy Kuma Kengo's architecture and contemporary art.
COMICO ART HOUSE YUFUIN is a hot spring villa where you can enjoy Kuma Kengo 's architecture, contemporary art, and the nature of Yufuin all at once. The two guest rooms are themed around the natural materials of "Soil" and "bamboo," and are spaces that allow you to feel the potential of these materials. During your stay, you can enjoy the works of Japan's leading contemporary artists, Nara Yoshitomo, Murakami Takashi, Sugimoto Hiroshi, and others, at the adjacent contemporary art museum, COMICO ART MUSEUM YUFUIN. Enjoy your stay to your heart's content in a space that will soothe your weary mind and stimulate your five senses.

The garden, which overlooks the moon rising in the eastern sky, was named Garden of waiting for Moon(待月の庭/Taigetsu no niwa).

You can feel the coolness of the bamboo even before entering the building.

In response to the roughness of the straw-covered, unpainted walls, the ceiling and windows are covered with thin "Awa paper"(阿波紙), which allows the plant fibers to shine through.
The space, resembling a hut surrounded by soil and fibers, exudes an atmosphere of unity with the nature of the garden.

The walls are finished with Echizen washi paper(越前和紙), which has a delicate, smooth, undulating texture that brings out the suppleness and luster of the bamboo.
